Rihanna Finds Sixth No. 1 on UK Chart
James Morrison’s “The Awakening” started a second week atop the U.K. album chart Sunday (Oct. 9), as Rihanna raced to the singles summit after only four days on sale with “We Found Love,” featuring Calvin Harris.
With modest second-week sales of 36,000, according to the Official Charts Company, “The Awakening” thus equals the achievement of Morrison’s 2006 debut “Undiscovered,” which spent its first two weeks at No. 1. His sophomore set “Songs For You, Truths For Me” reached No. 3 in 2008. “I Won’t Let You Go,” the first single from the new set and Morrison’s sixth U.K. top single overall, spends a third week in the top ten this week, dipping 6-8 after peaking at No. 5 two weeks ago. “Undiscovered” reached No. 24 on The Billboard 200, and “Songs For You” No. 49. “The Awakening” is released in the U.S. tomorrow (Oct. 11).
English rock band You Me At Six debuted at No. 3 with their third album “Sinners Never Sleep,” beating last year’s “Hold Me Down,” which opened and peaked at No. 5. Crossover country stars Lady Antebellum started at No. 4 with “Own The Night” and there was a No. 7 debut for English singer-songwriter Ben Howard’s “Every Kingdom” debut. Howard’s album success comes ahead of any notable singles chart presence. Its single “Keep Your Head Up” reached No. 74 recently.
The new album chart also featured climbs for Bruno Mars’ “Doo-Wops Hooligans,” 10-8, and Tony Bennett’s “Duets II”, 15-9. Classical crossover vocalist Katherine Jenkins opened at No. 17. “Now That’s What I Call RB” is in a second week atop the compilation chart.

Instead, the track continues to be one of the unluckiest runners-up in chart history, spending a sixth week at No. 2, with sales of 82,000. Maroon 5′s “Hands All Over” album, which debuted at No. 6 last October, jumped back 35-13, its best showing since then.
Last week’s singles bestseller, Sak Noel’s “Loca People,” fell to No. 3, as former chart-topper “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction moved back 5-4. Goo Goo Dolls’ “X Factor”-reactivated “Iris” fell 3-5 as U.S. electro hit makers LMFAO raced 20-7 with “Sexy And I Know It.”
